Reading University, UK; Sensory Panel Leader

Are you looking to begin or progress your sensory career within an exciting new role?

We are looking for a motivated and confident individual to work as a Sensory Panel Leader based at our Sensory Science Centre at Reading University.

MMR is an independent, global company specialising in consumer and sensory research within the food, drink and FMCG industry. We have offices in London, Oxford, New York, Shanghai, Singapore, Mumbai and Durban and have a team of 200 highly engaged and dynamic research professionals that is multi-discipline in nature covering fields such as data sciences, marketing, insight, R&D, sensory science and psychology.

Your role will be to lead two sensory panels which includes everything from organising project workload, running the panel, sample sourcing and preparation, running the data collection and management of the sensory areas. Other responsibilities include monitoring the quality of samples, preparing the materials for panel sessions / profiling, analysing training data, post project analysis of panellist performance, project administration and helping to clear up after panel sessions whilst ensuring compliance with basic food hygiene standards. This is a busy and varied role working within a range of categories from food and drink to personal and household care.

Candidates should be educated to degree level or equivalent; sensory profiling experience is desirable and experience working in the food industry essential. On the job training will be provided along with external training. This role requires a high level of IT competency (understanding of Compusense system would be beneficial), and good organisational and self-management skills. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and be adaptable is essential.

Reading University, UK: Part-time Sensory Panellist

Are you looking for a permanent part-time opportunity from September in a unique role?

Working hours will be between 2-4 days per week within school hours (no experience necessary – full training provided) with flexibility for home working as required.

MMR Research Worldwide specialise in consumer and sensory market research. We currently have two expert panels of Sensory Panellists based at Reading University and are now recruiting additional panellists.

Sensory Panellists work both individually and within a team to evaluate products within the food, drink and personal care industry therefore candidates should have good sensory acuity (this will be tested at a screening session), and have the ability to articulate themselves in front of others. No experience is necessary as full training will be provided.

Products evaluated will be varied ranging from food (including seafood and individual food ingredients) and drink (including alcohol & caffeinated drinks) through to personal care products such as shampoo, deodorant, washing powder, skin care and dental care products.

We are currently recruiting for vacancies on both our morning and afternoon panels; hours are either 9.30am to 12.00pm or 12:30pm to 2:30pm between Mondays and Thursdays (during term-time) and between Mondays and Wednesdays (outside of term-time) at £8.20 per hour. Flexibility for home-working where products are evaluated individually in your own home is required (paid at a higher hourly rate).

The role itself will be extremely varied, interesting and challenging, using a wide range of tools from basic stats applications through to linear and non-linear modelling, multivariate techniques and analysis of variance. Examples of tools are MMR’s proprietary SensoHedonic modelling (based on sensory and consumer preference mapping and segmentation), Design of Experiment, Structural Equation modelling such as Bayesian and PLS Pathway, C&RT, advanced choice based modelling / conjoint and multi-variate forecasting and predictive modelling. Extensive experience of the whole breadth of this offering is neither essential nor expected but a willingness to learn new techniques and embracing the spirit of constantly developing and improving the MMR offering is.

You will work as part of a strong team and be involved from project inception (contributing ideas to research design and how the data is collected) right through to analysing the results and offering insight from a statistical perspective on the trends observed in the data. In addition, the MMR team are constantly innovating and there will be many opportunities to help develop new techniques and refine existing ones in a highly stimulating and rewarding working environment. Effective communication is a key element of the role. As well as the internal research teams, you will have regular exposure to client stakeholders in the form of senior insight, marketing and R&D teams.

A further area we see as increasingly pivotal to our growth is the ability to automate and drive efficiency over our Data Sciences offering as a whole. Therefore an interest and understanding of programming would be highly beneficial.

Learn a new skill and help bring products to life!

MMR Research Worldwide specialise in consumer and sensory market research in the food, drink, personal and household care sectors.

We are currently looking for articulate and collaborative people to join our sensory team based in Brentford. Using the new skills that you’ll learn, you will be required to sample all sorts of oral health and skincare products.

No prior knowledge is required as full training will be given.

This is a permanent part-time role; 1:30pm - 4:30pm Monday to Thursday.
