This week we're sharing how tech is being harnessed to reduce food waste. This is a huge focus area for many manufacturers right now, and here we shine a light on a few of our favorite tech companies who are doing their bit to make the world a better place.
FoodCloud is a social enterprise in Ireland with a mission to transform surplus food into opportunities to make the world a kinder place. They work with businesses nationwide who have volumes of surplus food, such as farms, manufacturers and supermarkets - redistributing it to charities and support services.
YourLocal is a Danish app designed to sell food that restaurants and food shops would otherwise send to the garbage heap. The app gives access to a wide variety of high-quality, local surplus food. It debuted in New York, and is now sweeping stateside!
"Each meal you rescue saves money, supports local business, and prevents climate change."
The Karma app gives consumers the chance to buy food, that would otherwise go to waste, at 50% discount. Karma has over 1.4m users, who can unlock connected refrigerators with a QR code.
They were also awarded 'Startup of the Year', and partner with over 9000 manufacturers and supermarkets.
